Preparing for MRI
Designed for Comfort and Convenience
Your MRI scan will take from 30 to 60 minutes to complete. For your convenience, a flat screen TV will provide you with entertainment during your scan. Feel free to ask for anything you need. Follow your usual routine and eat anything you like, right up until the time of your scan. Unless directed by your doctor, continue to take any prescribed or over-the-counter medicines you need.
How to Prepare for Your MRI
You will be asked to leave all coins, jewelry, watches, keys, credit cards, hair pins, glasses, hearing aides, dental plates and any other metallic objects in a secureĀ locker. Because they may contain metallic particles, it is best to not wear any makeup.
Inform your doctor or the MRI technologist if you are pregnant, if you've ever been a metal worker, or if you've had surgery (especially brain, ear, or eye surgery), and if you have any of the following:
- Pacemaker
- Artificial heart valve
- Metal implants
- Neurostimulator
- Aneurysm clip
- Permanent eyeliner
- Implanted drug infusion device
- Foreign metal objects in the eye
- Shrapnel or bullet fragments
- Intrauterine device (IUD)
